Implants can be compared to dental roots. They are made of titanium metal and resemble small cylinders or screws. They are small with a length between 6 and 16 millimeters and a diameter between 3.3 and 4.8 millimeters. They, basically, are of the same dimensions as your natural dental roots.
Example: 2 front teeth are being replaced by implants.
Implants have to settle down and to grow solidly into your jawbone. This is a slow process. Therefore, it is important to avoid pressure on the implants in the early stages following implant surgery.
The recent vogue of performing an immediate permanent dental construction on the implants is, therefore, too risky and not to be recommended.
The permanent crown or bridge on the implant is usually made after 8 weeks. At that time, particularly in the case of an implant procedure of the front teeth, a further microsurgical adaptation may be required. Usually the healing process will take between 4 and 6 weeks.
